The Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on the ancient civilizations continues with a video on Nuragic civilization of Sardinia. The island of Sardinia, in the heart of the Western Mediterranean, hides one of Europe’s most enigmatic ancient cultures: the Nuragic civilization. Long before Roman legions or Carthaginian fleets arrived, the Nuragi were raising colossal stone towers, carving Giants’ Tombs, and turning Sardinia into a hub of Bronze Age trade and metallurgy. In this video, we explore who the Nuragic people were, how their culture emerged from prehistoric Sardinian communities, and why they built more than 7,000 Nuraghe towers that still dominate the island’s landscape. We examine their Proto-Nuragic beginnings, the explosive growth of settlements in the Middle Bronze Age, and the sophisticated networks of fortified centers, farms, and sanctuaries that turned Sardinia into a key player in Western Mediterranean trade. We also look at Nuragic society, religion, and daily life: clan-based politics, metalworking, seafaring, sacred springs, horned bronze figurines, and possible links to the Sea Peoples and Mycenaean Greeks. Finally, we follow the long twilight of the Nuragic world through Phoenician, Punic, and Roman expansion, and see how their legacy survives in modern Sardinian identity.
