The Last Lap for the Porsche GT4 e-Performance | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
The future is now the past. This is the last outing for the $1million Porsche GT4 e-Performance before it heads to the company’s museum in Stuttgart and Henry Catchpole exclusively gets behind the wheel. The four-wheel drive, three-battery car has up to 1126bhp and the ability to match the pace of a GT3 R in qualifying, yet it can also run the lap times of a GT3 Cup car over the length of a conventional Carrera Cup race. But what can we learn from it? What is the future for EV racing?
In this latest episode of The Driver’s Seat, Henry Catchpole visits the amazing Charade circuit in France - a mini Nürburgring if ever there was one - and has an honest look at the GT4 e-Performance project. As well as driving the GT4 e-Performance, we also interview Björn Förster from Porsche and Romain Bricaud from Michelin.
Förster gives an honest appraisal of what the challenges have been in the project as well as highlighting some of the more incredible aspects of the car. Meanwhile, Bricaud offers an insight into the development of the latest sustainable tyre from Michelin, a company based just down the road from the circuit in Clermont-Ferrand. The tyre is made with 71% renewable materials and we hear how sunflowers and oranges have been used in the production.
There is also a cameo from a smaller, slightly slower version of the Porsche GT4 e-Performance. If you’re a fan of LEGO then you’ll understand that we had to include the brick-built Technic version (set #42176 - made up of 836 pieces) of the full-size car in this video.
