Yoga for Musicians: Breathing, Poses & Mindfulness with Jennifer Caraluzzi | Wellness for Artists
Access Free Music Resources: https://berkonl.in/3HPNkYL
In this video from the Berklee Online course Wellness for Artists: Music, Movement, and Mindfulness, instructor Jennifer Caraluzzi teaches you some of the foundations of yoga and its importance for musicians. Caraluzzi welcomes Craig Juricka to demonstrate the same yoga poses in two different bodies, highlighting how they can look and feel different to everybody. Caraluzzi emphasizes the importance of the connection between breath and movement, using the “inhale” to find length and the “exhale” to find a deeper stretch. At first, Caraluzzi guides you to start your practice in a comfortable position and then to pay attention to your breath, breathing in towards the belly and rib cage and exhaling with a sigh. Then, Caraluzzi demonstrates a series of stretches such as the side bend, shoulder circles, wrist circles, and a body twist to loosen and stretch the upper body. Lastly, Caraluzzi teaches you how to come to different basic yoga positions such as “table top,” placing the shoulders in alignment with elbows and wrists, and the hips aligned with the knees. Pressing away from the yoga mat, you can move towards “cat cow” and change to other poses such as “child’s pose,” “mountain pose,” “tree pose,” and “plank.” Lastly, it is important to finalize each practice in “corpse pose,” laying down on the ground with your palms facing upwards and finding stillness.
