Let's sit down with two experts I deeply admire — Terry Burton (co-founder of Meris, formerly of Strymon) and Angelo Mazzocco (longtime DSP engineer, formerly at Line 6, now leading DSP architecture at Meris) — to ask three foundational questions:
What is delay?
What is reverb?
What is DSP (digital signal processing)?
This is not a sponsored video — I simply wanted to go to the source and bring clarity back to you, my audience. During our conversation, Terry and Angelo help me unpack how every audio effect ultimately begins with delay, that is, even filters, modulation, and envelope effects are (in one form or another) built on the notion of delaying a signal and feeding it back or comparing it.
