After the French were defeated in the New World, British settlers began flooding West, displacing Native tribes. ? In 1763, the Odawa Chieftain Pontiac forged a massive alliance of 14 tribes to stem the tide. They captured eight British forts and forced the Crown to sign a treaty forbidding settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains.
