Samoa: Giant bridges, cash and court battles ahead of election | The Pacific | ABC News
As Samoans prepare to go to the polls on August 29th, the country is divided. Earlier this year, amidst rolling blackouts and a cost of living crisis Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa's government collapsed following a relentless wave of political infighting.
Her biggest opponents – FAST’s Laaulialemalietoa Polataivao Schmidt and former Prime Minister, HRPP’s Tuilaʻepa Dr Saʻilele Malielegaoi have rolled out big spending promises to woo voters. But with more independents contesting than ever before, predicting who will form government isn’t straightforward.
Our reporter Adel Fruean, along with producer Gabriella Marchant report from Apia.
‘The Pacific’ is hosted by Johnson Raela and Alice Lolohea. #ABCThePacific
