Climate advisers have said that the UK must be prepared to cope with weather extremes of at least two degrees Celcius of global warming by 2050.

The independent Climate Change Committee said the UK is not adapted to worsening extremes such as 40-degree heatwaves, droughts, wildfires and flooding that are already occurring at current levels of one-point-four degrees of warming.
The committee urged ministers to set out stronger targets for protecting health, homes, food security and public services.
