The struggle is real?⬇️
There is infrastructure for charging EVs in bigger cities across Northern India however there was one major problem... They haven't been compatible with my car specifically since it is a pre production vehicle. This meant that my EV wasn't able to communicate with most of the charging stations within this country specifically. Tension has been at an all time high and this made my range anxiety go through the roof, especially since the clock was ticking before our permits expired to cross the border into Bhutan.
I have support vehicles, filmmakers, medics, security, a mechanic and an EV technician traveling with me on this adventure. Along with all sorts of things needed in case of emergencies, like spare tires and parts, we have a portable battery unit. This power-bank works on the same principle as the one you use to charge your phone when your battery is running low but this one is just a lot bigger.
One of the questions I’ve been asked in previous videos is what happens if the car runs out of power and this is our only solution. The portable battery gives about 12 km of range after 1 hour of charging which is hopefully enough to get us to the nearest charger or a plug socket. Every little bit helps!
By the way, this power-bank is fully electric ⚡️
If you’re new here ?
I am attempting to set the world record for the first person to circumnavigate the world in an electric vehicle. Now of course most of the earth is water and some countries are closed or unsafe, so I can't actually just drive around the globe in a straight line. To count as a circumnavigation, some of the rules are: 1) I have to drive at least 18,000 miles (which is about the distance if you could just drive across Earth by land); 2) drive in both hemispheres; 3) drive in antipodean areas (which means drive on opposite sides of the globe); and 4) drive on five continents.
