EU tells Trump that 'Ukraine must have freedom to decide future'

European Union leaders have told Donald Trump that Ukraine must be consulted on any potential peace deal ahead of the American President's meeting with Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Trump had raised the prospect of Ukraine giving up some land in exchange for peace.
But in a statement backed by the leaders of all EU countries except for Hungary, they said the principles of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and international borders "must not be changed by force."
