Rib Flare
Hi everyone — it's Amanda with Fitness Blender. Have you ever heard someone say, "Good form starts at your core"? Well, let me explain one reason why that's true.
Have you ever noticed your rib cage sticking out when you're lifting weights? That is called a rib flare — and it's actually something you want to avoid. When your ribs flare, it usually means your core isn't engaged and your alignment is off. A flared rib cage also means you're probably arching your back too much during lifts like squats or overhead presses. Not only can this cause back pain, but it also makes your movement less efficient, which, over time, can impact your strength and stability.
So, what should you do instead? Focus on keeping your ribs "down and in" by stacking them over your pelvis and engaging your abs. This helps maintain a neutral spine, which can improve your performance and help prevent injuries when you lift.
I hope this was helpful, and remember — next time you are working out, be mindful of the rib flare. https://gofb.info/WorkoutsWithAmanda
