Zadie Xa – 'Where inspirations lie' | Turner Prize 2025 | Tate
Zadie Xa’s art draws on ecology, science fiction, Korean folk art and ancestral storytelling. Through collaboration and sensory experience, she invites viewers into landscapes that feel strangely familiar yet distant, transforming questions of heritage, displacement, and community into powerful acts of storytelling.
In this short film, Xa talks to us about rituals, narratives, and the outsider energy of never fully feeling at home. Her work channels this search for identity, where myth, masquerade, and play open a space for erased or forgotten histories.
Zadie Xa is nominated for the 2025 Turner Prize, on display at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in Bradford, 27 September 2025 to 22 February 2026: https://bradford2025.co.uk/programme/turner-prize-2025
The winner of the Turner Prize 2025 will be announced on 9 December 2025.
