Cut these and the whole country goes dark
Most people imagine the internet living in satellites, but ~99% of global traffic rides on fiber-optic submarine cables. In this video I shine light through a real fiber, tour the Submarine Cable Map, and show how recent events—the Afghanistan blackout (Sept 30, 2025), Red Sea cable cuts disrupting cloud services, and Tonga’s volcanic break, prove how fragile our connectivity can be.
Even Starlink routes through ground stations back into this cable backbone. If fiber breaks, the internet breaks.
