Police try giving a ticket to a robot car. What could go wrong?
A California DUI enforcement stop took an unexpected turn when officers pulled over a driverless Waymo after an illegal U-turn at a light. With no human behind the wheel, they couldn’t write a ticket, there’s literally no “robot” box on the citation. Instead, police contacted Waymo about the glitch, and lawmakers are now drafting rules so officers can issue notices to the company.
In this video, we break down what happened, why current traffic laws don’t map neatly to autonomous vehicles, and what upcoming legislation could mean for future stops. Have you ridden a robotaxi? Are they safer than humans or not quite there yet? Drop your experience in the comments.
