The Napoleonic Empire and its Discontents

Learn about the rise and fall of Napoleon, from revolutionary general, to emperor, to exile, to national deity. A look at his grandiose propaganda precedes an account of art under the restored Bourbon monarchy. The cast includes J.-A.-D. Ingres, Antoine-Jean Gros, and Théodore Géricault, as well as the German Nazarenes and patriotic artists from Prussia and Britain.
