Unexpected Views: Ed Fornieles on Titian's 'Bacchus and Ariadne’ | National Gallery
The artist Ed Fornieles finds parallels between Titian's 16th-century painting, with its bacchanalian procession, and his own interest in identity and subcultures via themes of self-expression, social behaviour and the loss of control.
Images dealing with violence are shown during this video which some viewers may find upsetting.
Ed Fornieles (b. 1983) is an interdisciplinary artist based in London. Fornieles uses film, social media platforms, sculpture, installation and performance to express the interaction of family, relationships, popular memes, language and the subcultures of the 21st century. His work operates within immersive simulations, which construct and enact alternative political and social spaces. His projects often involve cultural, social, and infrastructural production.
