Overnight in Gaza, the IDF began what they’re calling phase two of 'Operation Gideon’s Chariot'.
Over the past week intensive bombing and artillery fire has given Israel’s troops an established foothold on the outskirts of Gaza city in the north of the strip.
It’s home to more than a million Palestinians who are starting to evacuate ahead of orders to do so, as the IDF begins its ground offensive.
Israel's operation has attracted widespread international condemnation with the United Nations Secretary General saying a ceasefire must be "reached immediately" to avoid "massive death and destruction".
