Shoulders Down and Back
Hi everyone. It's Amanda Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Today, I want to talk about a common cue used by personal trainers and physical therapists: shoulders down and back. What does that mean, and why is it important?
First, it promotes proper posture and alignment. By lowering your shoulders down away from your ears and gently pulling your shoulder blades together, you are placing your upper extremities in an optimal position to work, which helps avoid unnecessary stress. Second, it reduces the risk of injury. This position stabilizes your shoulder joints, making movements like pushing, pulling, or lifting much safer by protecting against strains and overuse injuries. Third, it enhances muscle activation and efficiency. Placing your shoulders in the back and down position engages the surrounding musculature more effectively, allowing the right muscles to do the work, which makes your workouts both safer and more productive.
I hope this was helpful, and remember the next time you are working out: shoulders down and back.https://gofb.info/WorkoutsWithAmanda
