Up Close and Personal with the MFA’s Van Gogh Portraits
In anticipation of the exhibition “Van Gogh: The Roulin Family Portraits,” paintings conservators were given unprecedented access to Van Gogh’s portraits over the course of several months. Together with the MFA’s conservation scientists, the conservators took a deep dive into the artist’s materials and methodologies using a wide range of techniques. Discover the results of this intensive examination, including new insights into how the MFA’s portraits were created and how they have changed over time.
