U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on September 1 that Russia’s participation in the G20 meeting did not affect the talks, despite concerns from some European officials over the war in Ukraine. Bessent said Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, whom he met with, is not under sanctions. Siluanov’s in-person attendance marked the first time a Russian finance minister had attended the forum since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
