This is the all-new Jaecoo 8!
It’s a competitor to renowned, established family SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq and Hyundai Santa Fe. The question is, does this all-new Chinese competitor have what it takes to overcome them? Let’s take a closer look…
Starting with the design, it’s fair to say Jaecoo seems to have taken some inspiration from Audi! The shape and size of the grille, coupled with the headlight design, look to have been lifted from an Audi Q7! The vertical slats within the grille also seem incredibly similar to what recent Mercedes SUVs have to offer. Around the back, there’s a full-length light bar, a roof spoiler, and the brand’s name is embossed across the boot - as seen in almost every new car these days! All in all, it looks like a premium car from whatever angle you look at it.
Step inside, and it seems Jaecoo has once again taken inspiration from another brand - but this time it’s Mercedes instead of Audi! The positioning of the vents, buttons and drive selector stalks all seem similar to what you’ll find in a Mercedes, even if the quality is a bit lower down the pecking order. There’s a relatively large infotainment screen and digital dial display which serve their purpose well enough, and the cabin is relatively well built. There’s also a good amount of storage throughout.
The Jaecoo 8 is powered by a 1.5-litre hybrid petrol engine that can deliver 428hp. This powers the front wheels, and it can accelerate to 60mph in just 5.8 seconds.
The Jaecoo 8 starts from just £45,500, so it’s relatively in line with competitors like the Santa Fe. The thing is, whereas top-of-the-range models of the Santa Fe increase up to around £60,000, there aren’t various different trims to consider with the Jaecoo - all models come with the same features and tech!
