Using Forensic Science To Identify Shipwrecks From Jutland
The Battle of Jutland was the ultimate clash of steel and fire in WW1. While most of the German fleet was scuttled at Scapa Flow, two mysterious wrecks in Portsmouth Harbor have long remained unidentified. In this film, we embark on a dangerous mission across the intertidal mud to investigate these ruins. Using 100-year-old gunnery reports and forensic archaeology, we identify the V44 and V82—two German destroyers that faced the might of the British Grand Fleet and survived, only to be forgotten for a century.
