
LIRR Workers Go on Strike After Failed Contract Negotiations
The Long Island Railroad is at standstill after workers went on strike at midnight. About half of the 7,000 workers walked off the job after contract negotiations failed over wages and healthcare. The rail system transports about 250,000 people between New York City and its Long Island suburbs every weekday.
