China Builds Escalators Up a Mountain
China has made a chain of outdoor escalators stretching up Mount Lingshan in Shangrao, turning the strenuous climb, into a leisurely ride to the summit.
There are 10 escalator sections that zigzag up the mountain, with the intention of making the summit accessible without a strenuous hike.
With a vertical rise of about 267 metres or roughly an 88-storey building, the escalators stretch high above the clouds and visitors can reach the top in about 10 to 15 minutes instead of a 2 hour climb.
Once at the summit area, platforms and paths let visitors take in panoramic views of granite peaks and the “sea of clouds” that often form below.
