AI in Music: Composition, Production & Analysis: How LLMs Understand Language with Embeddings
Access Free Music Resources: https://berkonl.in/3HPNkYL
In this video from Berklee Online’s AI in Music: Composition, Production, and Analysis course, instructor Dr. Carlos Arana teaches you how Large Language Models (LLM) use embeddings to transform language into mathematical representations of meaning. Dr. Arana explains that embeddings are numerical vectors that represent words within a high-dimensional space, capturing both meaning and context. He describes how these vectors are organized through semantic clustering, where words with similar meanings or usage patterns appear close together, while function words form separate groupings based on their grammatical roles. The lesson also highlights how terms from different domains can overlap in meaning, placing them near each other in the embedding space. Finally, Dr. Arana shows how sequences of embeddings form trajectories that represent entire sentences, with their shape reflecting both structure and meaning. He also introduces how attention mechanisms help LLMs process these sequences, allowing them to maintain context and generate coherent responses.
