I'm About To Burn a Bridge With Fender

Over the last few days Fender has been sending cease and desist letters to small US-based guitar builders, claiming they own the copyright to the Stratocaster body shape. This comes after they won a case in Düsseldorf, Germany back in March against an Alibaba seller, a case that was essentially decided on a technicality. Now it looks like they're trying to apply that doctrine globally to monopolize the Strat shape and force smaller builders to recall and destroy guitars they've already sold in the EU.
I've worked with Fender. I like Fender. I played a Strat on stage every night for the last five weeks on tour with The Midnight. I flew out to Corona for the Ultra 2 launch. So I'm not coming at this from a place of hating the company. But this is wrong, and I think the guitar community needs to push back on it before it gets worse.
