Marvel Studios tantalized fans by debuting a trailer (https://www.ign.com/articles/disney-debuts-new-avengers-doomsday-trailer-at-cinemacon-2026) for Avengers: Doomsday (https://www.ign.com/movies/avengers-doomsday) at CinemaCon back in April, but only for those lucky enough to be in the room where it happened. Fortunately, that trailer has now finally gone wide (https://www.ign.com/articles/first-proper-avengers-doomsday-trailer-reveals-thor-steve-rogers-and-doctor-doom-himself), and that means we’ve all gotten our first real taste of Robert Downey, Jr. as Doctor Doom. Suffice it to say, this isn’t just Iron Man in a green cape.
The new Doomsday trailer doesn’t reveal a lot about the plot of the new film. If anything, it raises a bigger question about Doom’s role in this multiversal conflict. Is he the hero or the villain here? Is he the doomsday the Avengers and X-Men are desperate to prevent, or is he our heroes’ only hope against the coming destruction?
