US Special Envoy calls Vladimir Putin 'humanitarian'

The US special envoy Steve Wikoff has met President Putin in St Petersburg and praised the Russian leader for being a 'humanitarian'.

He was commenting on the release of 74-year-old American citizen Stephen Hubbard, an English language teacher, who was captured in 2022 by Russian forces and jailed for allegedly fighting on behalf of Ukraine.
Witkoff is in Russia to discuss bringing an end to the war in Ukraine amid deteriorating relations between Washington and Kyiv.
