Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was prepared to have a fight with technology companies to keep young people safe online. More than 100,000 people responded to a government consultation about the proposal, with nine in 10 parents backing a ban.
But there is opposition and scepticism that it can really be done. Starmer said it will make Britain better for children - but there is scant detail on how he will make it harder to get around the ban, as many have already in Australia.
