British farmers are lobbying the government to reverse its decision to end a special visa programme for foreign sheep shearers.

They say closing down the scheme, which allows about 75 Australians and New Zealanders to work in the UK every summer, would be another blow to farming and could affect the animals’ welfare.
The government says it’s given the industry sufficient time to adjust and that thousands of people have been trained in sheep shearing in recent years.
