Andy Burnham has announced an £850 million tax cut on energy bills to help ease the cost-of-living crisis, sparking an argument with an outgoing Labour minister.
The new government said that from October 1st, electricity bills will be VAT free, saving households around £45-a-year. It said it will be funded by scrapping Sir Keir Starmer’s digital ID project but departed minister Darren Jones said that scheme was actually 'unfunded', casting doubt on how the energy cut will be paid for.
