Sir Keir Starmer said he was “proud” to back the legislation, which aims to prevent cover-ups by requiring officials to be transparent during investigations and inquiries into failures by the state.
It was dubbed the Hillsborough Law after police blamed Liverpool fans instead of their own mistakes after the 1989 football disaster that claimed 97 lives.
