Canada PM Mark Carney Says He'll Meet with Trump Ahead of Looming Tariffs Deadline
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Monday (August 17) that he plans to speak with U.S. President Donald Trump before August 19, the date when Trump has threatened to impose new tariffs on Canada.
Carney said he expected negotiations with the United States to move forward over the next 48 hours. He made his statements at an event where the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec announced they had updated a 2024 electricity deal, which will mean more income for Newfoundland.
