Border Wall Construction Sparks Clash Over Century-Old Tree, Protesters Detained
On October 5, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 10 protesters in Lochiel, Arizona, who had been tree-sitting and camping for 71 days to protect the last of four 250-year-old cottonwood trees known as the "Grandmothers." The Trump administration's plan for a double border wall required clearing the trees, and despite activist efforts and footage capturing tense interactions with agents, construction company Fisher Sand and Gravel ultimately knocked down the final tree.
