The C7 shape is one of the most useful movable chord forms on the guitar. Slide it up the neck and you've got D7, E7, G7, A7, the whole family from one shape.
But there's a second voicing that pairs with it really well, and it completely changes the color of the chord. Instead of rooting on the A string, you shift over and voice it from the D string up, stacking the third, seventh, root, and fifth across the middle strings. It's a jazzier, more open sound.
When you alternate between the two voicings in a blues progression it adds a lot of movement and sophistication without much extra effort.
