The C7 shape is one of the most useful movable forms on the guitar, and when you slide it up to the E7 position something special happens. You can let the open low E and open high E ring out underneath it, which gives the chord this full, resonant quality you just don't get anywhere else on the neck.
For blues, funk, and soul playing in E this voicing is worth getting really comfortable with.
