Add This One Slide to Upgrade Your Blues Scale
The blues scale sounds great, but adding one small move turns it into something that sits much better over dominant seven chords. The idea is sliding up a half step at certain points in the scale run, which brings in the major third and gives the whole thing a brighter, more resolved quality right where the chord wants it.
You can think of it as a hybrid between the blues scale and Mixolydian, but you don't need to know either of those terms to use it. The slides only go up, never down, which keeps the phrasing clean and intentional.
A great way to apply it is to use this version over the one chord and drop back to the straight blues scale when the chord changes. That contrast alone gives your solos a lot more shape and awareness. Try it out!
