Most blues guitar players know the classic SRV lick, but this variation adds a note that gives it a slightly jazzy edge. I'm working in E minor pentatonic up at the 12th position, and the twist is bringing in the 13th fret on the high E as a leading tone into the 14th.
That note is never meant to land on and sit. It's purely a passing tone, just a quick chromatic step that creates a little tension before you resolve. Used that way it sounds intentional and sophisticated, but the moment you hang on it too long it stops working.
