Renault Twingo vs Honda Super-N review – What's the best CHEAP electric car?
We put the new Renault Twingo up against the Honda Super-N! The Super-N has, until now, been our favourite cheap electric car – but now Renault has a retro-styled rival that could start at just over £16,000. We drove both cars from London to Pevensey in East Sussex (and back), taking in motorway, town and rural roads, to find out which is the better cheap EV.
You'll find out:
• Prices & trims: Renault says the Twingo will cost less than £20,000 before any EV grant is factored in, but it could start at just over £16k
• Batteries & range: the Twingo's 27.5kWh LFP pack against the Super-N's 25.4kWh NMC battery, and the official (WLTP) range of each car
• Real-world range: what each car actually managed on our 195-mile test, and how far short that was of the official range
• Efficiency: miles per kilowatt hour for each car, including charging losses and according to the trip computer
• Running costs: what the trip cost in each car, and how much that would vary if you were charging on a cheap off-peak tariff
• Charging: both quote a 50kW peak, so we measured what really happened and timed the 10-80% wait times
• Town driving: turning circles, visibility and ride quality in the medieval streets of Rye
• Country roads: which of the two is genuinely more fun, and where the Twingo starts to lose out
• Interiors & tech: the Twingo's 10.1-inch Google-based system against the Super-N's smaller nine-inch screen
• Practicality: 205-litre vs 162-litre boot, sliding rear seats against Magic Seats, and how the cars cater for rear passengers
• Safety: why neither car has a Euro NCAP safety rating, and why the Super-N won’t even have one
• Our verdict: breakdown of the findings, and why we can’t pick a definitive winner
