Starmer blasts ‘staggering’ decision to withhold Mandelson’s security vetting decision
Prime Minister Keir Starmer told MPs that it was “staggering” and “unbelievable” that he hadn't been told that Peter Mandelson had failed security vetting.

Starmer squarely blamed the former Foreign Office chief Sir Olly Robbins for not telling him that security vetting had said Mandelson should not be appointed and said he would have cancelled the appointment had he known.
But he denies misleading the House and hasn't apologised, even though he agrees Parliament should have been told.
The opposition, and some Labour MPs, said the risks of appointing Peter Mandelson had been obvious from the start and accused the prime minister of being deliberately incurious about the security checks.
