Mayors to be given tourist tax powers in local regions
Mayors in England are being given the power to introduce a tourist tax in their regions.
The details will be set out later, but already the hospitality industry has warned that a levy - which is not expected to be capped - could put jobs at risk.
In July, Edinburgh city council introduced a tourist tax equal to five per cent of the cost of the first five nights of paid accommodation.
It's projected to raise up to 50 million pounds a year for city improvements.
