If your guitar solos keep gravitating back to the same pentatonic box, this exercise is a good way to shake that habit. Take a lick you already know, find where it starts on the fretboard, then hunt down that same starting note in a completely different position and figure out the lick from there by ear. No memorized shapes, just your ears guiding you through the scale in unfamiliar territory. It feels like exploring more than playing, but that's kind of the point. Over time it builds real fretboard knowledge instead of just pattern recognition. Give that a try!
