How Distributed Tracing Works Across Microservices in Kubernetes
A single user request can pass through 10 microservices before checkout completes. When one gets slow, metrics alone won't tell you which one. That's what distributed tracing is for.
We walk through the full pipeline: spans, trace IDs, OpenTelemetry instrumentation in every service, the Collector running as a Kubernetes DaemonSet, Grafana Tempo storing traces cheaply in S3, and Grafana pulling it all into one request waterfall so you can see exactly where the time went.
