Diving 120 Meters to Study the Coelacanth in the Wild | SLICE EARTH | FULL DOC
For decades, the coelacanth was known only through fossils, a symbol of a decisive moment in the history of life on Earth. Today, studying this ancient vertebrate in its natural environment requires pushing human limits. In the deep canyons off South Africa, a team of scientists and divers undertakes an unprecedented mission, descending to 120 meters to observe the coelacanth alive, without disturbing it.
Combining extreme deep sea diving, cutting edge imaging systems and non invasive scientific protocols, this expedition opens a new chapter in the study of evolution. As time, depth and decompression impose relentless constraints, each dive becomes a race against physics in one of the least explored environments on the planet.
