Tony constantly emphasizes proper footwork and balance as the foundation of good boxing. He urges fighters to keep their feet apart and maintain a solid stance at all times, warning against bringing the feet together or stepping the wrong way. For example, if you’re moving to your left, step with the left foot first otherwise you’ll end up crossed and unable to punch or defend. When Tony spots a fighter leaning too far forward or putting too much weight on the front leg, he explains how that ruins their balance and power. He even demonstrates the correct weight transfer for a lead hook (shifting weight from front foot to back foot) to generate much more punching power. These insights show why footwork is “the most important thing in boxing” for any beginner.
The video also highlights common boxing mistakes in punching technique and defense. Several fans drop their guard or look away, so Tony stresses keeping your hands up and chin tucked especially when throwing body shots, since you’re in range to get hit. He gives clear heavy bag tips as well, like snapping your punches instead of pushing them. If you push your jab and lean into it, the bag will just swing around, whereas snapping it out correctly improves your power and accuracy. Tony even calls out one fighter for repeatedly stopping the swinging bag with his hand, “don’t let the bag control you,” Tony says, meaning you should time your shots to hit the bag as it returns instead of manually halting it. From demonstrating a proper double jab (fully extending and retracting each jab in training) to showing the right way to pivot into hooks, Tony breaks down how to punch correctly with better technique rather than just brute force. These are essential tips if you're trying to improve your boxing form the right way.
