In this video, Olympic boxer Tony Jeffries fights with one arm in Thrill of the Fight 2 and he breaks down why the jab and footwork are the most important boxing fundamentals. After injuring his spine and neck so he cannot throw a right hand, Tony jumps into a VR boxing match using only his lead left hand and world class footwork. The result is a masterclass in boxing technique and boxing training tips, as Tony outboxes a tough opponent while explaining each strategy in detail.

This breakdown is packed with lessons for improving your boxing skills, especially for beginners learning proper technique:
-Tony’s number one tip is simple. Your jab and your footwork are the two most important skills in boxing. He stresses that perfecting those basics was key to winning his Olympic medal.
-Adapting to injury: With his right hand limited by injury, Tony focuses on strengthening his left jab. The video shows him warming up and entering a bout where he will use only his left hand and elite footwork to win.
-Outboxing with the jab: Tony immediately takes control by jabbing and moving. He keeps the fight at his range with long, stiff jabs, winning the first round just by working behind that long, hard jab. His height and reach advantage let him stay safe while landing punches.
-Mindset and avoiding ego: Tony candidly points out how letting his ego take over breaks his game plan. At one point he abandoned his tactics to go toe to toe for a knockout and got caught with a big one. Staying patient with the jab is safer and more effective.
-Guard and footwork mistakes: He self critiques the fight, showing moments where his footwork slipped and his lead hand dropped. For example, he whacked himself with an overhand right when his guard went down. These clips remind us that even small lapses allow the opponent to counter.
-Score breakdown and lessons: At the end Tony reviews the judges’ scorecards. He clearly won Round 1, slipped in Round 2 after a knockdown, and narrowly lost Round 3. He notes that if he had landed one more of those hard jabs, he would have won.
