The First Signs of a Dragging Anchor
When the pilot launch departed, Nomadic Mild was already 200 metres from where the starboard anchor had been dropped despite having only 100 metres of cable out. That strongly suggested the anchor was dragging.
The bridge team assumed the pilot’s assessment meant everything was safe. Even when the chief officer questioned the vessel’s position on the anchor watch, the concern was not investigated.
