Why Ships Cannot Be Loaded Evenly
Cargo placement can change a ship’s shape. Too much weight in the middle causes sagging, while too much at the ends causes hogging.
Even loading cargo uniformly is not automatically correct, because the middle of the hull has greater buoyancy. Loading computers account for hull strength, draft, weight, and buoyancy to keep the vessel within safe limits.
