Why Doesn’t the Ocean Flood This Hole?
A normal moonpool is open to the sky, so trapped air is not holding the sea down. Water rises through the shaft only until it reaches the same level as the sea outside.
The ship stays dry because the shaft walls extend above the waterline, not because the hole is sealed.
