This Door Is Basically Part of the Hull
A watertight door is often made from steel comparable to the structure around it. It may be fitted into a bulkhead that needs to survive hull movement, wave impacts, cargo shifts, and water pressure.
It must also press evenly onto a rubber gasket. The door’s weight and heavy mechanism are not a design flaw, they are what allow it to hold the line when the sea is on the other side.
