How Cargo and Ballast Affect Ship Trim
Trim is a fore-and-aft difference in draft, rather than a sideways lean. A ship is down by the head when its bow sits lower, and down by the stern when the stern sits lower.
Cargo, ballast, fuel use, or flooding can create trim. It is usually less immediately dangerous than loll, but it affects steering, visibility, propeller efficiency, and overall handling.
